The Montessori Philosophy

Montessori education is a time tested, child-centered approach to education. It is a creative, innovative and individualized program that recognizes the natural curiosity and inherent desire of the child to learn. Children work at their own pace as they develop physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. All of this takes place in a naturally peaceful environment that is both nurturing and stimulating. With guidance from trained teachers, the child explores and discovers his world through his own hands-on experiences with specially designed, interactive learning materials. Montessori education empowers children to become confident, creative, critical thinkers.

The Nature Philosophy

The nature philosophy comes from the principles incorporated in the Montessori philosophy, with additional inspiration from books such as: How To Raise A Wild Child, by Scott Sampson, Last Child in the Woods, by Richard Louv and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, by Barbara Kingsolver. Connecting children to the natural landscape of South Carolina forests and farms is crucial to developing a sense of wonder and purpose in children.

Science has proven the importance of outdoor creative play is critical in the development of the growing brain, both with gross and fine motor skills. Children benefit from learning that is active and creative, while being exposed to the natural world. We can leave worksheets behind and build a foundation of critical thinking, imagination,            development of the will power, and connections to the wider world around us.

Nature gives us the tools to build the physical body, spirit of gratitude to those that went before us and the                 world around us, while building our academic skills.
